mind blowing glass

I was reminded today of an exhibition I saw in 2008 at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma of the work of Lino Tagliapietra.  This piece was so delicate and it had such tremendous movement in space, such subtlety – it was utterly inspiring and memorable.

Parasol par excellence

Brilliant urban design: Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain.  Opened in April 2011.  Built of bonded timber with polyurethane coating.  Fantastic structure echoing the grid of the city, mushrooming out of a regenerated square, Plaza de la Encarnacion.  Housing an archaeological site, eateries, farmers’ market, places to meet.  You can also walk along a walkway on top to see the city.  Designed by J. Mayer H.

The Story of Stuff

When we design new things, the old things become obsolete.  What happens to everything that is discarded?  Annie Leonard has the answer in The Story of Stuff.

When you have watched The Story of Stuff watch The Monkey People a Rabbit Ears Production based on a Colombian folk tale, narrated by Raul Julia with music by Lee Ritenour.  It is also a commentary on excess, indulgence and selfishness.
